Overview

CloudScape is designed with privacy as a core principle. We do not collect, store, or share your personal data. The app processes everything locally on your device.

Data Collected

Location data — CloudScape uses your device's location (coarse and precise) to provide weather forecasts, sun/moon positions, and astrophotography conditions. Location data is processed entirely on your device and is never sent to our servers because we do not operate any servers.

Data We Do NOT Collect

No user accounts or sign-ups
No analytics or usage tracking
No advertising identifiers
No third-party analytics SDKs
No cookies or web tracking
No personal information of any kind

Third-Party APIs

CloudScape connects to the following third-party services to retrieve weather and environmental data:

Open-Meteo — Provides weather forecast data. Your approximate coordinates are sent to retrieve location-specific forecasts. Open-Meteo is an open-source weather API that does not track users. Open-Meteo Privacy Policy
World Tides — Provides tide data. Your approximate coordinates are sent to retrieve local tide predictions. World Tides Privacy Policy

No personal data (name, email, device ID, etc.) is shared with these services. Only geographic coordinates are transmitted to provide location-relevant data.

On-Device Storage

CloudScape stores the following data locally on your device:

UserDefaults — Your preferences and settings (units, default location, notification preferences)
SwiftData — Your saved locations and cached forecast data

This data never leaves your device. There is no cloud sync, no backup to external servers, and no remote storage of any kind.

Children's Privacy

CloudScape does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. The app is safe for users of all ages and is compliant with COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act).

Data Deletion

Since all data is stored locally on your device, you can delete all CloudScape data at any time by deleting the app. No residual data exists on any external server.

Changes to This Policy

If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update the effective date above and publish the revised policy on this page. Material changes will be highlighted in the app's release notes.
